Which Disk Ninja do you have?

Disk Ninja comes in two versions, and a few answers below differ between them:

Scanning the whole disk

App Store version

The first time you scan a disk or folder, macOS shows a folder picker. Choose the disk or folder there to let Disk Ninja read it; the app remembers your choice. A few system folders stay unreadable for App Store apps, so their size isn't included.

Website version

macOS protects some folders, such as Mail and Messages. To include them, allow Full Disk Access: open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access and turn on Disk Ninja. If macOS asks to reopen the app, your scan resumes on its own. Without Full Disk Access, protected folders are shown as locked and the rest of the disk is still scanned.

Getting files back from the Trash

Disk Ninja moves the items you choose to the Trash; it never deletes them for good. To get one back, open the Trash in the Dock, select the item and choose File → Put Back. Once you empty the Trash, the items are gone.

DiskNinja Pro

Pro adds "What is this?" and cleanup suggestions. It's a monthly or yearly subscription with a 3-day free trial for new subscribers.
